01. This conference calls upon the people to defeat Separatism, Terrorism whilst protecting the sovereignty, unitary state, Territorial integrity and the National identity and dignity of Sri Lanka.

02. While saluting the progressive patriotic forces which dedicated themselves to ensure the victory of HE Mahinda Rajapakse at the Presidential elections held in the year 2005 this conference resolves that the efforts of local and foreign forces to create division among the patriotic forces in order to weaken the Mahinda Chinthanaya should be thwarted roundly defeated, and the conspiracies be frustrated.

03. We salute the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Police who are engaged with sacrifice & dedication for the protection of the motherland and especially the victories gained in the Eastern Province in defeat of Separatism and Terrorism.

04. We invite the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna to enter into a friendly dialogue and programme with the United People’s Freedom Alliance which is dedicated to preserve and protect the country.

05. The Government should take immediate steps to provide the people with a ‘basket’ of essential foods and other items to meet the problems of the rising cost of living.

06. The ever rising price of fuel resulting in the erosion of our foreign exchange waste and the eventual burden placed on the suffering masses particularly with the increasing cost of transport, Goods and Services are directly referable to the lack of a national fuel policy.

We vehemently urge the government to set up urgently a committee composed of intellectuals and professionals to formulate a National Fuel Policy.

07. The government should intervene to provide wide opportunities to the small and medium scale Industrialist in the matter of Agriculture and trade. In as much as the government is giving tax relief and concession to big companies in the matter of the import of machinery, it is also incumbent on the government to improve and extend the existing programme of giving relief in the matter of interests on Loans to the youth both male and female who are engaged in self employment ventures, thereby giving incentives to production and initiate and open new avenues with government assistance so as to the participation of the youth in national economy is facilitated.

08. It is necessary to move towards a new development strategy by a balanced economic policy without blindly following the failed Western economic solutions. A new path with sole objectives of building a modern economy.

09. The new Electoral reforms recommended by the Electoral Reforms Select Committee of Parliament should be introduced and implemented with immediate effect in relation to Parliamentary, Provincial, Local Government and Other election laws.

10. To ensure the successful working of a Democratic form of government it is imperative to formulate adopt and act upon a clear-cut media policy for the dissemination news and information.

The urgent need of this era is for the friendly interaction of media institutions, Media men, people’s representatives and other organizations interested in the continuation of the Democratic process to set up a mechanism to generate a media culture which will have the interests of the country as the upper most consideration.

11. The pleasant and exquisite environment of Sri Lanka is now being subject to grave destruction, the direct consequence being Land slides, Floods, Reduction of the under ground water table, Tsunami and Violent climatic changes.

In order to arrest this serious situation it is absolutely necessary to have a vibrant national programme with the objective of obviating the destruction and preserving and developing our environment.

12. While appreciating the commemoration of the release of Sri Lanka from the British Crown by setting up a sovereign republic state on 22nd May 1972 we call upon the Government to declare this Grate Historic Day as the National Republic Day.

13. The foreign exchange that is being made available to our country by all Sri Lankans who are engaged in foreign employment should be fruitfully channeled. It is imperative that this foreign exchange asset should be wisely monitored in the interests of the country.

14. Steps should be taken to ensure the dignity, rights, privileges, responsibilities and opportunities in the matters of development to women. It is also necessary to have accelerated programmes to ameliorate the conditions of women who are now placed in dire poverty.

15. The Government should formulate and implement a special programme to invite the services and assistance of all Sri Lankan intellectual, professional, and all other fellow Sri Lankan who are presently engaged abroad in the matter of National Development of their motherland.

16. Set up a well rounded programme to utilize the experience of the Elders who have hitherto sacrificed their lives for the children and the country, for the betterment of the country. Furthermore a welfare programme should be set up to meet the needs of the ever increasing elderly segment of the population.

17. For national production it is necessary to gain the confidence and co-operation of the people who are engaged in work amidst economic problems and constraints. We invite the attention of the Government to the necessity of assuring the working class of their rights, meaningful gains and security of employment and progress.

18. We call upon for Governmental reforms to establish Executive committee system in Parliament to strengthen democratic participation and not exceeding a number of twenty five.

19. We recognize the seriousness and alarming problems of the poor a high percentage in our society and call upon for a more effective, productive and serious implementation of a new poverty alleviation programme.

20. We should pursue the exemplary non-aligned foreign policy of Sri Lanka earned respect and co-operation of the world community. It is resolved that vibrant foreign policy be pursued and acted upon to promote special international co-operation particularly with South Asia and the South East Asian Countries and with Asian States.
