Fraternal Greetings for
Indian Independence Day from the Federation of All Ceylon Youth Leagues of the MEP

The Federation of All Ceylon Youth Leagues wish to take this opportunity to place before you their sincere and warm greetings on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of your beloved mother land. We wish the people of the Republic of India, the Independent Bharatha Deshaya, success in their achievements in the development of their country.

In retrospect, India-Sri Lanka relationship could be traced back to the ancient recorded history of the two countries, which reflects the religious political, cultural and commercial ties between the two countries. Diplomatic relations between the Republic of India and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka were established many centuries ago. The Federation of All Ceylon Youth Leagues of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP), which counts on a left political heritage of 60 years, takes this opportunity to pay glowing tribute to the youth of India, who have drawn the respect of the youth of Asia as the visible embodiment of the aspirations of the youth of Asia in general. The Federation of All Ceylon Youth Leagues wishes to convey their fraternal greetings to the Republic of India youth on the successful completion of 60 years as one of the potent organizations which represent the voice of youth. India is a country which worked hard to fight against poverty, ignorance and disease, despite economic difficulties. It is worthwhile to note that India is now fighting hard against poverty and several socio- cultural barriers which impede development..

Going back to the Independence struggle launched by the then leaders of India, it is worthwhile mentioning the name of our departed leader Hon. Philip Gunawardena who contributed his mite to the Indian freedom struggle, while enjoying the hospitality of the people and leaders of India. Our present leader, Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of Urban Development & Sacred Area Development, has often paid public tributes to the constructive and exemplary role played by the people of India who have proved their capacity to lead in all aspects of development in the modern world. It is also his fervent hope that India - Sri Lanka ties and collaboration which have prevailed through out the long standing history of our two countries may live for ever.
.
While expressing once again our cordial, fraternal and warm greetings, we express our confidence that there will be greater collaboration and closer ties between the younger generation of India and the Federation of All Ceylon Youth Leagues, thence forward, which will undoubtedly contribute to the realization of the aspirations of today’s youth on whom Asia’s future depends.
